Enhancing Civil Society and the State’s Capacities on Accountability and Torture Prevention through Human Rights Initiatives in Tajikistan

The Centre for Sociological Research ‘Zerkalo’, in partnership with the Public Organization ‘World of Law’ and the Dutch foundation ‘Perspectivity Challenge’, launched a two-year project on May 1, 2025, titled “Enhancing Civil Society and the State’s Capacities on Accountability and Torture Prevention through Human Rights Initiatives in Tajikistan”, funded by the European Union.

The goal of the project is to promote accountability, protect human rights, and prevent torture in Tajikistan.

The project aims to:

  • Strengthen the capacity of government and civil society actors in monitoring and evaluation;
  • Expand civil society engagement in human rights processes;
  • Support reforms in the country’s penitentiary system.

This project represents an important step toward strengthening cooperation between state institutions and civil society to ensure compliance with international human rights standards.
